Washington, United States – Web Desk: The United States is working on plans to form a new international coalition aimed at restoring safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
The report said Washington has launched efforts to bring together partner nations under a proposed framework named “Maritime Freedom Construct” (MFC), designed to ensure the free flow of commercial shipping through the strategic waterway.
Details of the initiative were outlined in a diplomatic cable sent by the United States Department of State to American embassies earlier this week. Diplomats have reportedly been instructed to encourage allied countries to join the coalition.
According to the report, the US-led alliance would focus on intelligence sharing, diplomatic coordination, and enforcement of sanctions to maintain maritime security in the region. The plan signals Washington’s intent to involve multiple countries in managing current and future challenges in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.
The coalition is expected to operate through joint coordination between the State Department and United States Central Command. While the State Department would act as the diplomatic hub, CENTCOM would provide real-time maritime data for commercial shipping and facilitate operational coordination among partner forces.
A senior US official was quoted as saying that the initiative is one of several policy options under consideration by the administration of Donald Trump to address escalating tensions and disruptions in the region.
