US Negotiators Remain in Ongoing Contact with Iran, Says White House

Date:

Washington, United States – Web Desk: The White House has confirmed that US negotiators remain in continuous contact with Iran, even as President Donald Trump insists any potential agreement will only move forward if it serves American national security interests.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said diplomatic channels between US officials and Iranian counterparts remain open. She added that Iran is currently grappling with internal leadership challenges amid ongoing conflict, which has impacted its strategic positioning.

Kelly emphasized that President Trump is prepared to enter into an agreement with Iran only if it aligns with key US security priorities. Her remarks come shortly after Trump issued a stark warning via social media, urging Tehran to swiftly finalize a nuclear deal. He also criticized Iran’s handling of negotiations, saying the country lacks clarity on abandoning its nuclear ambitions.

Earlier, the White House acknowledged reports that Trump and his national security team had reviewed fresh proposals from Iran aimed at ending hostilities and reducing regional tensions.

Media reports suggest that Iran’s proposals may include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, contingent on a ceasefire. Tehran is also reportedly seeking to defer detailed negotiations on its nuclear program to a later stage.

However, neither side has publicly disclosed the full details of these proposals.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that diplomatic efforts to restore peace in the Middle East are ongoing. He noted that these efforts have contributed to an extension of the ceasefire, which remains in effect.
