Asia-Pacific – Web Desk: The United States military has seized an Iranian-linked oil tanker in the Asia-Pacific region, according to an official statement from the U.S. Department of Defense, now referred to as the Department of War.
The operation took place in the Indian Ocean, where U.S. forces boarded and took control of the vessel identified as an Iranian-sanctioned tanker allegedly involved in transporting crude oil in violation of international restrictions.
The Pentagon stated that the action is part of an ongoing global campaign targeting illicit maritime networks that support Iran by bypassing sanctions and facilitating restricted oil trade.
Officials said the vessel, identified as M/T Tiffany, was listed under sanctions by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for allegedly transporting Iranian oil.
According to maritime tracking data, the interception likely occurred in the Indian Ocean, with U.S. forces boarding the vessel as part of broader enforcement operations aimed at restricting sanctioned shipping activity.
The U.S. military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining maritime security, stating that it will continue operations globally to dismantle illegal shipping networks and enforce international maritime law.
This latest seizure follows previous U.S. naval actions in the Gulf of Oman, where Iranian-flagged vessels were also intercepted amid escalating maritime tensions in the region.
