Washington, United States – Web Desk: The United States and Israel are reportedly preparing for the possibility of renewed military action against Iran, with operations potentially beginning as early as next week, according to a report published by The New York Times.
The report said President Donald Trump recently rejected peace proposals presented by Iran, while U.S. and Israeli officials are considering multiple military options amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
According to the report, discussions between the two allies include large-scale strikes on Iranian military and infrastructure targets, possible operations involving Iran’s key oil export hub on Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, and special commando missions aimed at securing highly enriched nuclear material believed to be buried under debris at damaged nuclear facilities.
The report cited two senior Middle Eastern officials as saying that military planning between Washington and Tel Aviv has intensified in recent days.
U.S. officials reportedly warned that any operation to recover enriched uranium from Iranian territory would carry significant risks, potentially requiring thousands of troops, a complete military blockade of targeted areas, and direct confrontation with Iranian ground forces.
The report further stated that joint U.S.-Israeli strikes conducted last year targeted several Iranian nuclear facilities, leaving around 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium potentially trapped beneath the rubble. Experts cited in the report said the material could theoretically be sufficient for the production of multiple nuclear weapons.
The developments come as regional tensions continue to rise over Iran’s nuclear programme, security in the Persian Gulf, and fears of a broader Middle East conflict.
