Washington, United States – Web Desk: Negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, hosted in the United States, have concluded following a fresh round of talks attended by senior diplomatic officials, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to international media reports, the discussions involved the Israeli ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, and Lebanon’s ambassador, Nada Hamadeh Mouawad.
The US State Department confirmed that the negotiations were held behind closed doors, although both ambassadors briefly addressed the media prior to the talks. Officials said further details of the discussions would be released at a later stage.
The talks come amid heightened tensions in the region following recent Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon. Israeli officials have claimed that the strikes targeted positions and leadership linked to Hezbollah.
Reports indicate that more than 250 people have been killed in the strikes, raising international concern over the escalating conflict. Iran and Pakistan have both described the attacks as a violation of an earlier ceasefire agreement.
Several European nations, including France, have called for extending the ceasefire framework to include Lebanon, urging restraint from all parties involved.
Meanwhile, foreign ministers from 17 countries, including the United Kingdom, issued a joint statement encouraging Israel and Lebanon to use the opportunity for dialogue to pursue lasting peace and regional stability.
Diplomatic sources suggest that both the United States and Israel are seeking concrete assurances regarding the disarmament of Hezbollah before moving toward any formal ceasefire agreement.
Analysts say the outcome of these negotiations could play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of security dynamics in the Middle East.
