New York/Islamabad: (Web Desk) – The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned the suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad that killed at least 32 people and injured 92 others, describing the incident as a “heinous and cowardly act.”
In a press statement issued on Friday by Council President James Kariuki, members expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims as well as to the government and people of Pakistan. The Council also wished a swift and full recovery for those injured in the attack, which occurred on February 6, 2026.
According to the statement, the militant group ISIL (Da’esh) has claimed responsibility for the bombing. The UNSC reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms remains one of the most serious threats to international peace and security and called for those responsible — including perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors — to be held accountable under the law.
The Council urged all member states to cooperate fully with Pakistani authorities in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions to ensure that those behind the attack are brought to justice. It stressed the importance of strengthening global collaboration against terrorism through lawful measures aligned with the United Nations Charter.
Council members also reiterated that acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of motivation or the identity of the perpetrators. The condemnation comes amid heightened concerns about regional security and the threat posed by extremist groups.
The Islamabad mosque attack has drawn widespread international condemnation, with governments and organisations around the world expressing solidarity with Pakistan. Security analysts say the UNSC’s statement highlights continued global commitment to counterterrorism efforts and underscores the urgency of coordinated action against extremist violence.
