UK-Based Doctor Examined Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on August 10
RAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: A UK-based doctor was part of a four-member medical board that examined former prime minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on August 10, medical records from the examination show.
Dr Farqad Alamgir joined Dr Arif Khan, cardiologist Dr Akhtar Ali Bandesha and Dr Ali Arif on the medical board constituted to assess the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder.
The examination has gained renewed attention amid discussions surrounding medical care for the incarcerated former premier and access to specialist doctors.
Medical records from the August 10 examination showed Imran’s blood pressure at 140/80, while his pulse was recorded at 54 beats per minute.
The former prime minister did not report chest pain, heaviness, shortness of breath or palpitations during the examination. His electrocardiogram showed no significant abnormality, while an echocardiogram indicated normal heart chambers and valves.
The medical board recommended allowing Imran a daily one-hour walk and relaxation as part of measures intended to help manage his blood pressure and stress.
It also recommended access to newspapers, television and books, along with increased interaction with family members.
The August 10 assessment followed an earlier examination on August 1, when concerns had been raised over fluctuating blood pressure, headaches and anxiety.
Medical records covering Imran’s incarceration have subsequently become part of proceedings before the Supreme Court concerning his healthcare and access to medical treatment.
A report submitted to the court in August documented 39 medical examinations by different specialists between November 2023 and August 10, 2026.
The Supreme Court later directed authorities to arrange hospital-based medical assessment and treatment for the former prime minister.
Imran has undergone several medical assessments during his imprisonment, including treatment and follow-up examinations for an eye condition.
Questions surrounding his healthcare have remained the subject of legal proceedings and competing statements from his party and government officials, making documented medical records central to establishing the details of the treatment provided to him.
