Trump’s Image to Appear on Limited-Edition US Passports, Sparking Controversy

Date:

WASHINGTON – Web Desk: A new controversy has emerged in the United States following the announcement of a limited-edition passport featuring the image and golden signature of President Donald Trump. The announcement was made to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.

According to a foreign news agency, a prototype of the new passport was unveiled at an event in Washington, displaying Trump’s image against a backdrop of the Declaration of Independence. Another design features a historic painting of America’s founding fathers. Officials said the special passport will be available only in the capital for a limited time, with no additional fee.

Opposition leaders have criticized the move as self-promotion by the president, arguing that using state resources for personal purposes violates democratic values. Critics noted that few democracies worldwide feature the image of a sitting head of government on their passports.

Most countries highlight natural landscapes, historical heritage, or national symbols. Even some authoritarian states prefer national symbols over portraits of their leaders. The current US passport also features symbols such as the moon landing and the Statue of Liberty.

Prior to this, the Treasury Department announced that Trump’s signature would be added to dollar notes in the future.
