Washington, United States – Web Desk:

The United States marked the 250th anniversary of its independence on Saturday amid nationwide celebrations, political divisions, and an intense heatwave, as President Donald Trump warned that America’s national identity is facing renewed threats.

Speaking at the iconic Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota, Trump praised America’s history and achievements while delivering a strongly worded speech focused on immigration, national unity, and the country’s political future ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

Addressing thousands of supporters, Trump claimed that the United States is facing “a renewed attack” on its identity, arguing that extremist political ideologies and illegal immigration pose serious challenges to the nation’s values.

“There is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land,” Trump said, linking his criticism to recent political developments and warning against ideologies he believes threaten the country’s future.

The US president reaffirmed his commitment to protecting America’s borders and preserving what he described as the nation’s founding principles.

Standing before the monument honoring former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, Trump called on Americans to remain united and defend the country’s democratic values.

He also pledged to continue fighting political opponents and reiterated his opposition to illegal immigration, declaring that “America will never be a communist country.”

Meanwhile, celebrations across the United States were overshadowed by an extreme heatwave, with nearly 160 million Americans placed under heat alerts.

In Washington, temperatures were expected to exceed 102°F (39°C), with the heat index reaching as high as 115°F (46°C), forcing officials to cancel several Independence Day parades and public events due to safety concerns.

Despite the soaring temperatures, Trump proceeded with a large-scale rally on the National Mall, featuring military flyovers and a major fireworks display as part of the country’s historic anniversary celebrations.

The occasion also prompted reflection across the nation. A recent Quinnipiac University poll found that 61 percent of Americans believe the country is not fully living up to the ideals outlined in the Declaration of Independence, highlighting ongoing political and social divisions.

International leaders also marked the occasion. Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pope, called for a more inclusive society and emphasized the importance of welcoming immigrants while protecting human dignity. Meanwhile, King Charles III reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to shared democratic values and strong transatlantic relations.

The anniversary comes at a politically significant moment as the United States prepares for midterm elections later this year, with national identity, immigration, and economic concerns expected to remain central campaign issues.
