Washington, United States – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down his global tariff policy, calling the ruling “shameful” and signaling that he has alternative options to pursue his economic agenda.
According to international media reports, Trump reacted strongly after being informed of the court’s decision during a closed-door meeting with US governors at the White House. A source present at the meeting told Fox News that the president labeled the ruling “embarrassing” after reading it and stated that he had a “backup plan” before continuing his speech.
Earlier, the US Supreme Court ruled by a 6–3 majority that the president does not have the authority to impose broad tariffs under economic emergency powers. The court clarified that regulating imports does not extend to imposing sweeping tariffs, emphasizing that such authority lies with Congress, which is the legally mandated body to make such decisions through consensus.
The ruling has triggered mixed reactions within Trump’s Republican Party, while opposition parties have welcomed it as a victory for the rule of law. Trump has made tariffs a cornerstone of his economic policy since returning to office last year, but the strategy has remained highly controversial both domestically and internationally.
