Trump says Iran should not be denied ballistic missiles if others have them

Date:

Paris, France – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has said it would be “unfair” for Iran to be denied ballistic missiles if other countries possess similar weapons, making remarks that are likely to draw renewed international attention to US–Iran security policy.

Speaking to reporters in Paris, Trump argued that the existence of missile capabilities in regional states should be considered in relative terms.

“If other countries have them, it’s a little bit unfair for them not to have some,” he said, adding that countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar already maintain such capabilities and that Iran could be allowed a “proportional” level of armament.

Trump also indicated that the United States will maintain a military presence in the Gulf region for some time following the conclusion of a months-long period of tensions with Iran.

His comments come amid ongoing debate over regional arms balance and long-term security arrangements in the Middle East.
