Trump Claims Iranian President Requests Ceasefire Amid Hormuz Tensions

Date:

Washington, USA – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s newly appointed president has formally requested a ceasefire with the United States, though Trump added that the request will only be considered once the Strait of Hormuz is fully reopened, free, and secure.

In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described Iran’s new leader as “less radical and more intelligent” than his predecessor and said, “We will consider any ceasefire request once Hormuz is open and secure. Until then, we are fully targeting Iran or, as we say, sending them back to the Stone Age.”

The statement comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following a US-Israel joint strike on February 28, which killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s associates, Revolutionary Guard commanders, and several civilians. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting US military bases and Israel, a campaign that continues to this day.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly told European Council President Antonio Costa that Iran is ready to halt military operations if both Iran and the US receive firm guarantees against future attacks. He emphasized that Iran has never initiated hostilities and remains committed to respecting the sovereignty of neighboring countries, targeting only foreign military bases in response to aggression.
