Trump Call Pushes Netanyahu Toward Lebanon Ceasefire Talks

Date:

Karachi – Web Desk: A reportedly tense phone call between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has led to a significant diplomatic shift, with Israel agreeing to enter direct ceasefire negotiations with Lebanon.

According to international media reports, including Bloomberg and CNN, the conversation between the two leaders was described by US and Israeli sources as “tough” and unusually direct. The call appears to have played a decisive role in bringing Israel to the negotiating table.

Shortly after the call, Israel announced its willingness to begin direct ceasefire talks with Lebanon—marking a notable development amid escalating regional tensions. Reports suggest that Netanyahu was informed only shortly before that Lebanon would be included in a broader ceasefire framework.

Sources indicate that the Israeli leadership recognised that failure to engage diplomatically could have prompted Washington to move forward with a ceasefire announcement independently.

The development comes just a day after President Trump declared a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, with Washington expressing concern that Israeli military actions were undermining broader de-escalation efforts.

Trump reportedly urged Netanyahu to scale back operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, particularly following heavy Israeli strikes that resulted in significant casualties.

Analysts view this shift as part of a broader US effort to stabilise the region and prevent the conflict from expanding further, especially as high-level diplomatic talks continue in Islamabad.
