Washington, United States – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has announced a new blockade policy for the Strait of Hormuz, saying the United States will act as the “guardian” of the strategic waterway while imposing a 20% transit fee on cargo passing through it.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would remain open for international commercial shipping but that the new restrictions would specifically target Iranian vessels and their customers.
He stated that countries other than Iran would continue to enjoy unrestricted access to the vital maritime route, while measures aimed at Iranian shipping would take effect immediately.
According to Trump, the United States will begin enforcing the new operational framework for the Strait of Hormuz without delay. The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region and growing international concern over global energy supplies and maritime security.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes, carrying a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
