Trump Administration Tightens Green Card Policy, Applicants Must Return Home

Date:

WASHINGTON – Web Desk: The Trump administration has issued new directives further tightening the process for obtaining green cards or permanent residency in the United States, requiring most applicants to apply from outside the country.

According to US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), foreign nationals seeking permanent residency or green cards in the US will generally need to submit their applications through the State Department from their home countries or outside the US. The agency stated that only under extremely exceptional circumstances will a person’s adjustment of status application be approved while remaining inside the US.

USCIS spokesman Zach Cahler said that foreign nationals temporarily residing in the US who wish to obtain green cards — including international students, temporary workers, and tourist visa holders — must return to their home countries to apply.
