Over 169 injured as suicide bomber strikes Imambargah gate in Tarlai area

At least 15 people were killed and more than 80 injured in a suicide bombing at the gate of an Imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai area, triggering panic across the federal capital on Tuesday.

The powerful explosion shattered window panes of nearby houses, while the body of the suicide attacker remained inside the Imambargah premises. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

Police, rescue teams, the bomb disposal squad, Rangers, and Pakistan Army personnel rushed to the site and sealed the area. Authorities imposed an emergency across Islamabad, with PIMS, Polyclinic, and CDA Hospital placed on high alert. Medical staff leaves were cancelled to manage the influx of victims.

According to district administration officials, 23 injured were shifted to PIMS Hospital and 11 to Polyclinic, while emergency departments including orthopedics, burn units, and neurology wards were activated. Assistant commissioners were deployed to hospitals to oversee treatment.

Following directives from Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry visited PIMS Hospital and instructed authorities to provide special medical facilities to the injured.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extending condolences to the families of the victims. He ordered a full investigation and directed authorities to identify and punish those responsible, vowing that no one would be allowed to spread terror and unrest in the country.

Meanwhile, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas also condemned the attack, calling it a grave failure in ensuring the safety of worshippers in the federal capital.
