Storms, Hail Disrupt Life Across Balochistan, Fatalities Reported

Date:

Quetta, Pakistan – Web Desk: Severe storms accompanied by heavy rainfall and hail have disrupted daily life across several districts of Balochistan, causing widespread damage, flooding, and loss of life, officials said.

In Quetta, strong winds and torrential rain inundated streets, while northern districts including Chaman, Qila Abdullah, and Ziarat reported intense rainfall and hailstorms.

Authorities said the extreme weather has damaged orchards producing apples, apricots, cherries, almonds, figs, plums, and pomegranates, raising concerns over agricultural losses.

Flood-like conditions were reported in areas such as Harnai, Kalat, and Surab, where connecting roads were blocked and several vehicles were swept away by flash floods.

In Gulistan tehsil, rescue teams saved 12 people after a passenger van and a truck were caught in floodwaters. In Harnai, passengers escaped by jumping from a vehicle trapped in a fast-moving stream, while six trucks were also stranded in flood channels.

Separate incidents of lightning strikes and roof collapses in Bolan and Bajaur resulted in the deaths of five people, including women and children.

Meanwhile, rainfall was also recorded in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Bhakkar, a woman was killed and a child injured after a roof collapsed due to heavy rain.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious as unstable weather conditions persist across multiple regions of Pakistan.
