Southern Lebanon Erupts Again as Israeli Strikes, Hezbollah Rockets Resume

Date:

Beirut, Lebanon – Web Desk: Southern Lebanon has once again become a battlefield as Israeli airstrikes hit multiple areas and Hezbollah fighters responded with rocket barrages, dealing a serious blow to ongoing regional ceasefire efforts .

Lebanese state media reported that Israeli warplanes carried out raids on the Nabatieh Al Fawqa area and the eastern outskirts of Kfar Tibnit, while a separate drone strike targeted the town of Ansariyeh in the Zahrani region . Explosions were heard across several locations, causing panic among residents .

The strikes come just days after the United States and Iran announced a framework agreement to end the war across multiple fronts, with a formal signing ceremony scheduled for Friday in Switzerland .

Hezbollah Responds

In retaliation, Hezbollah fighters launched at least 10 rockets toward Israeli military positions near Kfar Tibnit, according to local sources . The group also reported clashes with Israeli forces attempting to advance in the area, using rockets and drones to block an armored force consisting of an excavator and Merkava tanks .

Fragile Truce Under Strain

Despite reported reductions in violence following the US-Iran understanding, Lebanese state media said Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least five people since the deal was announced . The Lebanese army has urged residents of southern areas to delay returning to their homes, citing ongoing risks of “Israeli violations and attacks” .

Broader Context

Iran has repeatedly insisted that ending the fighting in Lebanon must be an integral part of any broader agreement with Washington, demanding a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory . The conflict, which began when Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel on March 2 in solidarity with Iran, has killed more than 3,800 people in Lebanon and displaced over one million .

Israeli officials, however, have signaled that military operations in Lebanon may continue “for as long as necessary,” raising doubts about the prospects for de-escalation . The latest clashes underscore the fragility of the situation and the immense challenges facing diplomatic efforts to restore stability to the region.
