Web Desk – Islamabad, Pakistan’s two major gas utilities, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), have formally submitted applications to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) seeking significant increases in gas tariffs for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to details, SSGC has requested an average increase of Rs5,306 in gas prices, while SNGPL has proposed an increase of Rs29 per MMBTU. The companies have also included adjustments related to previous revenue shortfalls in their submissions.
Collectively, the proposals estimate a financial impact of approximately Rs1,650 billion, covering both the upcoming fiscal requirements and past sectoral deficits.
The tariff revision requests come at a time when Pakistan continues to face energy sector challenges, including rising import costs, supply-demand gaps, and circular debt pressures.
OGRA is expected to review the proposals before making a decision on potential adjustments to gas prices for consumers nationwide.
