Sindh, Türkiye Seek Stronger Cooperation in Education, Healthcare and Development

KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: The Sindh government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding development cooperation with Türkiye, focusing on education, healthcare, clean drinking water, disaster management and employment opportunities across the province.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah discussed the initiatives during a meeting with a senior delegation from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi.

The delegation was led by the agency’s vice president, Dr Ali Erjan, and reviewed ongoing Turkish-supported development activities while exploring opportunities for additional cooperation.

The discussions highlighted the importance of international partnerships in improving essential public services and supporting socioeconomic development in underserved communities.

Education and Healthcare Among Key Priorities

Murad Ali Shah outlined Sindh’s priorities in education reform, digital transformation and human resource development.

He emphasised the role of international cooperation in strengthening institutional capacity, improving educational opportunities and supporting long-term development.

The meeting also addressed healthcare and public welfare, particularly initiatives aimed at improving access to safe drinking water.

Both sides reviewed existing projects and discussed areas where further technical assistance and cooperation could benefit local communities.

However, no specific new funding commitment, signed agreement or implementation timetable was disclosed.

Solar-Powered Water Filtration Projects Reviewed

The Turkish delegation highlighted solar-powered water filtration facilities operating in Umerkot and Pano Aqil.

These projects are intended to provide clean drinking water to underserved populations while using renewable energy to support their operations.

The facilities were reported to serve thousands of people daily, although detailed beneficiary figures and independently verified performance data were not provided.

Access to safe drinking water remains an important public health and development concern, particularly in communities facing infrastructure and resource constraints.

Karachi Livelihood Programme Supports Families

The meeting also reviewed a livelihood initiative in Karachi that provides rickshaws to eligible families through a revolving financing arrangement.

The programme aims to help low-income households generate income, strengthen financial independence and develop more sustainable employment opportunities.

The revolving financing approach is designed to support the continued operation of the initiative, although the total number of participating households and financing amounts were not disclosed.

Disaster Preparedness and Rescue Training

Disaster response was another important area of cooperation discussed during the meeting.

Sindh rescue personnel have received specialised training through Turkish-supported programmes covering search-and-rescue operations, disaster management and instructor development.

Such initiatives are intended to strengthen local emergency response capacity and improve preparedness for natural disasters and other emergencies.

The meeting reflected continued engagement between Sindh and Türkiye on practical development projects rather than the announcement of a new comprehensive funding package.

Further details on proposed initiatives, financial commitments and implementation schedules have yet to be announced.
