Sindh earned global recognition through action, not promises: CM Murad Ali Shah

Date:

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said on Thursday that the world’s attention shifted towards Sindh because the provincial government demonstrated tangible results through action not just promises.

Addressing the Asia-Pacific Shelter and Settlements Forum 2026 in Karachi, the chief minister recalled that during the devastating 2022 floods, nearly 70 percent of Sindh was submerged and around 2.1 million homes were damaged, leaving millions displaced.

He said that following the disaster, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pledged to provide resilient and dignified housing to every affected family. Initially, the target appeared impossible due to limited financial resources, but through determination and an effective strategy, the project was launched.

Murad Ali Shah stated that within a week, the World Bank committed financial assistance, and additional support was secured from various donor agencies through an international conference.

He added that the Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) project has now become the world’s largest housing reconstruction programme, with the construction of millions of homes currently underway.

Highlighting a key feature of the model, the chief minister said that ownership of houses has been granted to vulnerable groups, particularly women, empowering them and promoting social transformation.

He further emphasized that climate change is a global reality and Sindh is ready to share its experience with the world to collectively achieve sustainable and climate-resilient housing solutions.
