Murad Ali Shah pledges financial aid, temporary shops, and full plaza rebuild within 2 years
Karachi: (Web Desk) Karachi’s Gul Plaza victims will receive immediate financial relief and long-term support, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced. Following the devastating fire and collapse, CM Shah pledged Rs500,000 per shop in the first phase, with full compensation to follow, and reconstruction of the plaza within two years.
Addressing the Sindh Assembly, Shah confirmed DNA identification of victims, ordered a comprehensive inquiry, and vowed criminal action against negligent officials. The government will provide temporary commercial arrangements, subsidized loans up to Rs10 million, interest-free financing, and enhanced security for affected traders.
Shah also acknowledged regulatory gaps predating the 18th Amendment, emphasized the need for mandatory insurance for commercial buildings, and rejected federal takeover proposals, stressing provincial governance autonomy. His announcement highlights accountability, emergency preparedness reforms, and long-term support for Karachi’s business community.
