The Sindh senior minister updated PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on major transport projects, including the Red Line and Yellow Line BRT corridors.
KARACHI — WEB DESK: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon met Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at Bilawal House and briefed him on the progress of major public transport projects across the province.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, Memon updated Bilawal on ongoing transport mega projects and initiatives aimed at improving public transport facilities for residents of Sindh.
Red Line BRT Project
The meeting came days after Memon said work on Karachi’s University Road had entered its final stages and would be completed within two months.
Memon made the remarks while inaugurating the Mosamiyat Flyover, a key component of the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. He said the flyover would soon be opened to the public after the completion of necessary formalities.
According to Memon, work on Red Line stations and other components of the BRT corridor was also progressing. He acknowledged delays in the project and apologised to Karachi residents, citing several issues that had contributed to the delays.
Sindh Transport Development Plans
The Sindh government allocated more than Rs100 billion in its 2026-27 budget for transport, water supply, drainage, sanitation and urban infrastructure projects in Karachi.
According to budget figures cited by The Express Tribune, Karachi has 816 ongoing development schemes with a combined cost of Rs644.3 billion.
The allocation includes Rs13.2 billion for the Red Line BRT and more than Rs3.5 billion for the Yellow Line corridor. The government has also announced plans to introduce 25 double-decker buses and add 100 electric buses to Karachi’s public transport network.
More Infrastructure Projects
In June, the Sindh cabinet approved Rs11.198 billion for 11 infrastructure projects in Karachi under its mega projects programme.
The projects include rehabilitation of major roads, construction of a bridge at Power House Chowrangi and a flyover at K-4 Chowrangi.
The cabinet also approved an additional Rs8.825 billion for water supply and sanitation schemes across Sindh.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said at the time that timely completion of development projects and transparent use of public funds remained a priority for the provincial government.
Focus on Public Transport
Memon’s briefing to Bilawal comes as the Sindh government continues work on major BRT corridors and other public transport initiatives in Karachi.
The projects are aimed at expanding transport infrastructure and improving mobility facilities for commuters across the province.
