Seven Militants Killed in North Waziristan Intelligence-Based Operation
PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Pakistani security forces killed seven suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, October 9, security sources said.
The operation targeted individuals identified by Pakistani authorities as members of Fitna al-Khawarij, the official designation used for militants associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Security sources said a substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered following the operation.
The reported deaths and recoveries have not been independently verified, and authorities have not released the identities of those killed.
Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
The latest operation forms part of Pakistan’s continuing counterterrorism campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces have carried out repeated intelligence-led actions against suspected militant networks.
Officials said the operation was aimed at disrupting militant activity and reducing the ability of armed groups to launch further attacks.
Separate security reports also said several militant hideouts were destroyed during the latest operation.
The precise location within North Waziristan, the duration of the operation and whether any security personnel were injured were not specified in the initial report.
President Zardari Praises Security Forces
President Asif Ali Zardari commended the security forces following the operation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to counterterrorism efforts.
He said Pakistan would continue working to prevent militant groups and their supporters from undermining national security.
The president also expressed support for security personnel involved in operations against armed groups.
His remarks came as the government reiterated its commitment to the Azm-e-Istehkam counterterrorism initiative.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi Reaffirms Security Commitment
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also praised the personnel involved in the North Waziristan operation.
He highlighted their professionalism and said operations against militant organisations would continue under the government’s counterterrorism strategy.
Naqvi said security forces remained determined to dismantle militant networks and prevent further attacks.
Nine Militants Reported Killed a Day Earlier
The latest announcement follows another operation in North Waziristan on October 8, in which security sources reported the deaths of nine suspected militants, including four described as senior commanders.
Officials said weapons and ammunition were recovered during that operation.
Those nine reported deaths are separate from the seven announced on October 9.

The operations come amid continued security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where militant attacks have targeted security personnel, government facilities and civilians.
North Waziristan, near Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, has remained a focus of counterterrorism activity because of the presence and movement of armed militant networks.
Pakistani authorities say operations will continue, while independent confirmation of the latest casualties and further operational details remains limited.
