(Web Desk) – Saudi Arabia’s cabinet, chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, has approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakistan to strengthen cooperation in the electricity sector, marking another step in deepening bilateral economic relations.
The cabinet approved the MoU on cooperation in the power sector, including electrical interconnection, as part of the broader Economic Cooperation Framework signed on October 27 last year. Under this framework, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding trade and investment ties based on shared economic interests.
The MoU aligns with ongoing efforts by Riyadh and Islamabad to build long-term collaboration in key infrastructure and energy sectors. Officials view electricity cooperation as a vital pillar in supporting sustainable development and regional connectivity.
Regional, international situation
During the meeting, the Saudi cabinet reviewed the wider regional and international landscape, with a strong focus on developments in Gaza Strip. The cabinet welcomed the launch of the second phase of the comprehensive peace plan for Gaza.
The cabinet praised the start of work by the Palestinian National Committee tasked with administering Gaza and stressed that the Palestinian Authority should be allowed to resume its responsibilities in the territory. It also underlined the need for lasting peace and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
International initiatives, regional developments
Saudi ministers welcomed the announcement of a Board of Peace by Donald Trump as part of broader international peace efforts.
The cabinet also expressed support for the ceasefire agreement in Syria, describing it as a positive step toward regional stability.
Saudi media reported that King Salman chaired the cabinet session a few days after undergoing a medical examination, highlighting continuity in leadership and governance.
Sorrow over Gul Plaza tragedy
Separately, the Saudi Foreign Ministry issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and grief over the deadly fire at Karachi’s Gul Plaza.
The ministry confirmed that 27 people lost their lives and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families, prayers for the injured, and best wishes for the safety and security of Pakistan and its people.
