RIYADH (Web Desk) – Saudi Arabia has announced the launch of a special international “Camel Passport” program aimed at providing camels with a standardized identification and registration system worldwide.
The initiative was inaugurated by Saudi Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Mansour Al-Mushaiti.
According to Saudi officials, the Camel Passport will serve as a comprehensive identity and regulatory document to ensure proper registration, monitoring, and global-standard identification of camels.
Authorities stated that the passport will include key details such as the camel’s microchip number, passport number, and date of birth. Additional information including the animal’s name, breed, gender, color, and place of birth will also be recorded. A photograph of the camel will be included for identification purposes.
Officials said the move is an important step toward livestock protection, breeding development, and promoting Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage on the global stage.
Statistics show that around 2.2 million camels are registered under Saudi Arabia’s national heritage program, with the Riyadh region having the highest number, exceeding 656,000 registered camels.
