Dhaka, Bangladesh – Web Desk: Pakistan all-rounder Salman Ali Agha has responded to the controversial run-out during the match against Bangladesh, saying he would have handled the situation differently if he were in Mahdi Hasan’s position.
Speaking at a press conference after the game in Dhaka, Agha explained the incident. During the match, he had stepped out of the crease at the non-striker’s end while bowler Mohammad Rizwan played a shot. The ball hit Agha’s bat and stopped, prompting him to pick it up and return it. At that moment, Mahdi Hasan removed the bails, and the third umpire adjudged Agha out.
Agha initially reacted in anger, throwing his gloves and helmet on the ground.
Later, he clarified, “Technically, Mahdi’s action was correct according to the rules. But I believe sportsmanship is also very important in cricket. If I were in this situation, I might have handled it differently.”
He added that the ball had struck his pads before the bat, which led him to believe it was dead. “I was only trying to return the ball to the bowler, not take a run,” Agha explained.
The player also expressed regret over his emotional outburst, attributing it to a momentary loss of temper, and stated he plans to discuss the incident with Mahdi Hasan to resolve the matter amicably.
