Saim Ayub Smashes Maiden T20 Century to Power Jamaica Kingsmen to CPL Win

BASSETERRE, ST KITTS AND NEVIS — WEB DESK: Pakistan all-rounder Saim Ayub produced a match-winning all-round performance in the Caribbean Premier League 2026, smashing his maiden T20 century as Jamaica Kingsmen defeated St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 11 runs at Warner Park.

Ayub struck a superb 102 from 58 deliveries, hitting eight sixes and six fours, to rescue Jamaica from early trouble and propel them to 182 for seven from their 20 overs. He then returned figures of 1-20 from four overs, including the crucial wicket of Andre Fletcher.

The Patriots finished on 171 for six, leaving Jamaica with an 11-run victory and their third win of the CPL campaign.

Ayub Rescues Jamaica After Early Wickets

Jamaica’s innings began badly after the Patriots chose to bowl.

Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah struck twice in his opening two overs as Jamaica lost both openers cheaply. Ayub walked in at No. 3 and was forced to rebuild after his team slipped to 12 for two.

Further wickets left the Kingsmen at 63 for four, but Ayub remained composed and gradually shifted the momentum.

He formed a crucial 72-run fifth-wicket partnership with captain Rovman Powell, who contributed 21 from 17 balls.

Ayub initially played the stabilising role before accelerating dramatically during the closing overs.

Jamaica scored 91 runs from the final seven overs, transforming what had been a struggling innings into a challenging total.

Maiden T20 Hundred Arrives With a Six

Ayub completed his first century in T20 cricket in emphatic fashion, launching Obed McCoy for six to reach the landmark.

He was dismissed from the very next delivery while attempting another attacking shot, but his 102 had already put Jamaica in a strong position.

The innings contained six fours and eight sixes, giving Ayub 72 of his 102 runs in boundaries alone.

Keemo Paul added an unbeaten 25 from 13 balls, while Powell’s 21 provided important support. Jamaica eventually closed on 182-7.

The hundred was particularly significant because it was Ayub’s maiden T20 century, rather than simply his first CPL hundred. Wisden reported that it came in only his second appearance of the 2026 CPL season.

Patriots Fight Back in Chase

St Kitts and Nevis also suffered early setbacks while chasing 183, reaching 42 for three in the Powerplay.

Andre Fletcher led their recovery, scoring 55 from 38 balls, while the contest remained finely balanced through the middle overs. Remarkably, after 13 overs both sides had been 91 for four at the corresponding stage of their innings.

Ayub then made another decisive contribution — this time with the ball.

The Pakistani left-arm spinner dismissed Fletcher with a caught-and-bowled, removing the Patriots’ established batter and disrupting their recovery. Ayub finished with 1-20 from four overs, making him Jamaica’s most economical bowler in the match.

Shanaka, Holder Threaten Late Comeback

The match was far from over.

Jason Holder and Dasun Shanaka mounted a late counterattack, with the Patriots taking 24 runs from the 18th over.

Shanaka then struck three sixes in the final over, but Jamaica had left the home side too much to do.

The Patriots eventually finished on 171-6, with Shanaka unbeaten on 35 from 18 deliveries. Holder contributed 34, but their late hitting could not overturn Jamaica’s advantage.

Jamaica Claim Third CPL Victory

The result gave Jamaica Kingsmen their third victory in seven matches and moved them into fourth place with six points at the time of the match report. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots remained at the bottom after suffering their fourth defeat in five games.

For Ayub, however, the match represented a personal milestone as well as an important team victory.

A 102-run innings followed by 1-20 with the ball made him the decisive performer in a contest that remained alive until the closing overs.

It also provided another high-profile performance from the Pakistan international in franchise cricket, with his maiden T20 hundred combining the controlled rebuilding and aggressive strokeplay that have become central features of his batting.
