Sahibzada Farhan Named Pakistan T20I Captain for Sri Lanka Series

LAHORE, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Pakistan have appointed Sahibzada Farhan as T20I captain for the upcoming three-match home series against Sri Lanka, replacing Salman Ali Agha as the national side prepares for another major white-ball assignment.

Farhan will lead a 15-member squad in the series beginning at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9.

The second and third matches will be played at the same venue on October 11 and 13.

Farhan recently captained Pakistan at the Asian Games in Japan, where the national side finished with the silver medal.

Salman Ali Agha has not been included in the T20I squad but retains his place in the ODI team.

Several other prominent players from Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad are also absent from the T20I group, including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf and Usman Tariq.

The T20I squad includes Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Arafat Minhas, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Nawaz, Muhammad Imran Randhawa, Khawaja Nafay, Maaz Sadaqat, Naseem Shah, Razaullah, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Shadab Khan and Sufiyan Moqim alongside captain Farhan.

Following the Sri Lanka series, Pakistan will compete in an ODI tri-series involving England and Sri Lanka.

Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue as Pakistan’s ODI captain for the tournament.

The 16-member ODI squad includes Babar Azam and Salman Ali Agha, along with Abrar Ahmed, Arafat Minhas, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, Haris Rauf, Hasan Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Razaullah, Saad Baig, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan and Sufiyan Moqim.

Razaullah is in line to make his ODI debut after recently making his Test debut against England.

Fakhar Zaman also returns to the ODI setup after missing Pakistan’s previous assignment because of fitness issues.

The seven-match ODI tri-series will begin on October 18.

Rawalpindi will stage the opening three matches before the tournament shifts to Lahore for the remaining league fixtures and final.

The squad announcement marks a significant leadership change in Pakistan’s T20I setup, with Farhan taking charge as selectors reshape the side following the T20 World Cup.
