Saeed Ghani Welcomes Reversal of Nasla Tower Demolition, Vows Support for Affected Citizens

Date:

Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Sindh Minister for Labour and Manpower Saeed Ghani has welcomed the Federal Constitutional Court’s decision to overturn the Supreme Court’s earlier order for the demolition of Nasla Tower, expressing hope that future judicial rulings will take into account the constitution, the law, and the welfare of the people .

Ghani, who faced a contempt of court case for speaking out against the demolition of Nasla Tower, Pavilion End, and residential buildings during the tenure of the former Chief Justice of Pakistan, said he takes pride in having stood with the people .

Infrastructure Damage and Economic Setbacks
The provincial minister noted that billions of rupees worth of infrastructure on Rashid Minhas Road was reduced to rubble in 2021 on court orders. He maintained that if there were construction violations, the government could have taken action against the operators and utilized the structures for public welfare instead of demolishing them .

Ghani also criticized the demolition order for Nasla Tower, arguing that while builders and officials should be held accountable, ordinary citizens who invested their life savings in purchasing apartments should not have been displaced .

Judicial Reversals and Public Trust
The minister said the previous Chief Justice’s decisions stalled construction business in Karachi, caused bookings to be lost, and eroded public trust in government institutions and judicial decisions. He expressed hope that courts would consider the constitution, the law, and the potential harm to the public in future rulings .

The Federal Constitutional Court’s recent decision aligns with its stated position that action against illegal construction is primarily the provincial government’s responsibility, not the judiciary’s, and courts should remain limited to disputes before them without unnecessary interference .
