Rawalpindi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Recent rainfall in Rawalpindi and neighboring twin cities has significantly boosted water levels in major reservoirs, improving the overall water supply situation.
According to a spokesperson from the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Rawal Dam’s water level has risen to 1744 feet, well above its dead level of 1706 feet. Meanwhile, Khanpur Dam recorded a level of 1952 feet, compared to its dead level of 1910 feet.
WASA Managing Director Azizullah Khan stated that the recent rainfall has not only replenished the reservoirs but may also improve underground water levels.
He added that, based on current reserves, Rawal Dam can supply water for the next six months, while alternative sources can provide water for approximately three months.
Regarding the city’s daily water demand and supply, the MD noted that Rawalpindi requires 70 million gallons of water per day, whereas WASA currently provides 51 million gallons daily, indicating a continuing gap between demand and supply.
