SBCA initiates structural strengthening to restore load-bearing capacity of fire-hit columns

Karachi: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has officially commenced the concrete jacketing process on structurally affected columns of Rampa Plaza following the recent fire incident.

According to SBCA officials, the primary objective of this intervention is to restore the load-bearing capacity of weakened structural columns. The technical process focuses on enhancing steel reinforcement, shear capacity, and overall structural strength to ensure the building’s long-term safety.

Authorities confirmed that the repair work is being carried out under strict supervision and in accordance with designs approved by certified and registered structural engineers. The affected sections of the building will remain sealed until the concrete jacketing process is fully completed.

Following the completion of jacketing, compression and bond strength tests will be conducted to verify structural integrity. SBCA emphasized that final safety clearance will only be issued after comprehensive structural assessment and non-destructive testing, in line with Sindh Building Code and approved engineering standards.
