PDMA warns of rain, snowfall, slippery roads from Jan 31 to Feb 3
Peshawar, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) have issued weather alerts for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, forecasting rain, snowfall, and a drop in temperatures over the coming days.
According to PMD, a new western weather system is expected to affect the region from January 31 to February 3. During this period, KP will experience cloudy weather, intermittent rain, and further snowfall in upper districts.
PDMA KP said rain and snowfall are likely in Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Chitral (Upper & Lower), Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Upper & Lower Kohistan, and Kolai Palas. Plain areas including Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan may also receive rain.
Authorities warned that snowfall could lead to slippery roads and possible closures in tourist destinations such as Naran, Kaghan, Kalam, Murree, and Chitral.
Meanwhile, PDMA Punjab has also issued an alert, forecasting rain and snowfall in upper Punjab from February 1 to 3, particularly in Murree, Galiyat, Potohar region, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, and Gujranwala.
All relevant departments, including Rescue 1122, Police, Health, Transport, and Local Government, have been placed on high alert. PDMA has directed that emergency control rooms remain active round-the-clock. Tourists have been advised to drive cautiously, avoid overspeeding, and follow official advisories.
