Quetta Acid Attack Victim Dr. Mahnoor Nasir to Be Sent to US for Treatment

Date:

Quetta, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Balochistan government has decided to send Dr. Mahnoor Nasir, the young doctor who suffered severe injuries in an acid attack at Quetta’s Civil Hospital, to the United States for specialized medical treatment .

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Shahid Rind, confirmed the decision, stating that the provincial government has initiated all legal and administrative procedures for her transfer abroad . The decision was made on the directives of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti .

Current Treatment Status

Dr. Mahnoor is currently receiving medical care and undergoing initial treatment at a private hospital in Karachi, where she was airlifted following the attack . She will remain under medical observation in Karachi for approximately one more week before being transferred to the United States for further specialized care .

Medical sources have confirmed that Dr. Mahnoor sustained burn injuries to approximately 13 percent of her body, including her face, abdomen, legs, and right hand. While the acid affected areas around her eyes, her eyesight remains intact .

The Attack and Investigation

The tragic incident occurred at Sandeman Hospital in Quetta, where a hospital employee allegedly threw acid on Dr. Mahnoor while she was on duty at the General Surgery Unit . A hospital ward boy, Abdul Razzaq Turkai, who rushed to save her, also sustained serious injuries .

According to police, the suspect fled the scene but was later killed in an exchange of fire with law enforcement personnel during a manhunt . The case has sparked widespread outrage and raised concerns over workplace safety for women in public institutions, as well as questions regarding the swift conclusion of the investigation .

The attack has been strongly condemned by doctors’ associations and human rights groups across Pakistan, with the Balochistan Young Doctors Association announcing a boycott of services, while continuing emergency care in protest .
