Qatar Confirms Relaying Messages Between US and Iran to End War
DOHA, QATAR — WEB DESK: Qatar has confirmed that it is relaying messages between the United States and Iran as part of intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict and preventing further escalation across the Middle East.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said Doha’s mediation efforts were continuing and that Qatar was currently carrying messages between the American and Iranian sides.
The statement provides public confirmation of Qatar’s role as an intermediary at a time when Washington and Tehran remain divided over the conditions required to reach an agreement.
Asked about the possibility of a major US military escalation against Iran, Al-Ansari said Qatar remained concerned about any further escalation in the region and was working toward a peaceful solution.
The diplomatic push comes as Qatari mediators conduct shuttle diplomacy between the two sides. US and Iranian officials have been engaging separately with intermediaries rather than holding direct negotiations.
Iran has also discussed new proposals with Qatari mediators that Tehran expects Doha to convey to Washington. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said his country expects to receive the US response through Qatar.
Despite renewed diplomatic activity, no breakthrough has yet been announced. Major disagreements remain over the terms of a broader settlement and arrangements surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important route for global energy shipments.
The latest mediation effort follows months of confrontation between Washington and Tehran that has affected regional security and disrupted global energy markets.
Qatar has repeatedly called for diplomacy to resolve the crisis and has positioned itself as a channel of communication between the two governments.
The confirmation that messages are actively moving between Washington and Tehran signals that diplomatic contacts remain open despite continuing disagreements. Whether the indirect negotiations can produce a ceasefire or a wider political settlement, however, remains uncertain.
