Punjab, World Bank agree to expand partnership in health, education and climate projects

LAHORE (Web Desk) – The Punjab government and the World Bank have agreed to further strengthen their partnership across key development sectors.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif met World Bank President Ajay Banga, along with his delegation, and warmly welcomed the visiting team.

Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in health, education, housing initiatives, the “Suthra Punjab” program, tourism, and climate-related projects.

Ajay Banga praised the Punjab government’s welfare-focused initiatives and ongoing reforms.

The World Bank president lauded Punjab’s progress in tourism, education, health, and skills development projects and reviewed World Bank–supported initiatives in various sectors. He assured continued support and investment in climate resilience, digital governance, and inclusive development.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government highly values World Bank cooperation, adding that health and education remain top priorities with substantial investments underway.

She emphasized the province’s commitment to financial stability, sustainable business models, and the Country Partnership Framework (CPF).

She stated that digital payments, governance reforms, agriculture improvements, and initiatives such as the Nawaz Sharif IT City, global IT certifications, and e-procurement are strengthening governance.

The chief minister also highlighted housing schemes, including “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar,” and social welfare programs like the Nigehban Package and Himmat Card for deserving citizens.
