Punjab CM Maryam Forms Economic Transformation Committee

Date:

Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has constituted an 11-member Economic Transformation Committee aimed at accelerating industrial growth, fostering sector-specific development, and strengthening the province’s economic resilience amid national and global pressures, including rising energy costs and regional instability.

The committee, chaired by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb with the Finance Secretary as its secretary, will conduct district-level economic mapping to identify high-potential growth areas and prioritize sectors for the establishment of specialized industry clusters.

Key responsibilities include setting measurable indicators, developing short- and long-term implementation timelines, and collaborating closely with private-sector stakeholders to ensure practical and high-impact initiatives.

The panel will emphasize tailored skill development programs aligned with industry needs and work to integrate Punjab’s value-added local products into global supply chains.

Proposals under consideration include the creation of dedicated industry hubs across the province: dairy products in Sahiwal, IT software in Lahore, garment and leather clusters alongside technical textiles and furniture in Faisalabad, surgical and sports goods in Gujranwala, and fans, rice exports, and appliances in Gujrat.

The move comes as Punjab seeks to stimulate job creation, enhance export competitiveness, and build a sustainable economic ecosystem in the face of challenges such as elevated fuel prices driven by the ongoing Middle East conflict and domestic fiscal constraints.
