Punjab CM Announces Rs2 Million for Each Kahna Tragedy Victim’s Family

Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: Punjab CM announces compensation after the Kahna tragedy.

The funeral prayers for all 14 children who lost their lives in the Kahna tragedy were offered on Wednesday, as grief engulfed the area following the heartbreaking incident. The victims were later laid to rest in a local cemetery amid emotional scenes.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced Rs2 million in financial assistance for the family of each deceased child, while Rs500,000 will be provided to every injured victim.

Following the tragedy, markets and businesses in the affected area remained closed, with residents observing mourning. Police maintained tight security during the funeral prayers, while heavy security personnel remained deployed throughout the night to ensure law and order.

The district administration arranged essential facilities, including electricity, clean drinking water, sanitation services, and other logistical support for grieving families. Vehicles for the transportation of the deceased and sanitation teams also remained on-site throughout the day.

Meanwhile, the injured children and a female teacher continue to receive treatment at Lahore General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. Hospital officials said the injured are being provided with the best possible medical care on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Police have widened the scope of their investigation into the incident. Authorities have taken into custody the injured property owner, the female teacher’s husband Rehan, his brother Faizan, and a labourer identified as Umair, who was reportedly working on the rooftop at the time of the incident. Investigators are examining multiple aspects of the case.

Police said a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation is being conducted under the chief minister’s directives to determine responsibility and ensure legal action against those found accountable.

In addition, Maryam Nawaz has ordered a province-wide review of safety standards in government and private educational institutions, as well as other private buildings, to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Punjab Chief Minister’s Adviser Zeeshan Malik confirmed that the compensation package includes Rs2 million for each bereaved family and Rs500,000 for every injured victim.
