PSL: Rawalpindi Announces Retentions After Franchise Buyout

Date:

Islamabad / Web Desk: The newly branded Rawalpindi franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has announced its retained players ahead of the upcoming season, following the team’s acquisition in early February.

The former Multan Sultans franchise was purchased by Wali Technologies for a record PKR 245 crore (approx. $14 million USD) and renamed Rawalpindi, making it the most expensive team in PSL history.

In its retention announcement, the Rawalpindi franchise confirmed the following key players:

  • Mohammad Rizwan retained in the Platinum category for PKR 5.6 crore
  • Sam Billings retained in the Diamond category for PKR 3.08 crore
  • Zaman Khan retained in the Gold category for PKR 1.12 crore
  • Yasir Khan retained in the Silver category for PKR 60 lakh

The team’s management highlighted that retaining these players ensures a balance of experience and emerging talent as they prepare for the next PSL season. Mohammad Rizwan, the Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman, is expected to lead the team as a central figure, while Sam Billings adds international experience from England’s limited-overs squads.

The PSL franchise’s buyout and renaming mark a significant investment in Pakistan’s cricket ecosystem, with Wali Technologies becoming the latest corporate entity to enter the league. The franchise’s spending reflects growing commercial interest and rising valuations in the PSL, which continues to attract domestic and international talent.

The PSL season is anticipated to feature high-octane competition, with Rawalpindi aiming to make a strong impact under its new ownership and reinforced squad. Fans can expect announcements regarding the remaining squad members, coaching staff, and preparations in the coming weeks.
