PSL franchise owners opposes PCB’s proposal to add two more teams

Date:

LAHORE (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise owners have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) proposal to add two new teams to the league.

The franchise owners have voiced their concerns, arguing that expanding the league at this stage could impact its overall stability.

Sources said the franchise owners have taken a firm stance, emphasizing that the number of teams should not be increased for the time being. They argued that the current six teams should be financially and operationally stabilized first before considering any expansion. The owners believed that adding new teams prematurely could strain the existing structure and resources.

The franchise owners also pointed out the growing impact of the T20 World Cup and multiple international leagues, which could affect both the PSL brand and its revenue. The busy cricket calendar might divert attention and affect the league’s scheduling, they warned.

Nadeem Omar, the owner of Quetta Gladiators, also confirmed that the valuation report for the teams has not yet been received.

Without this crucial report, any decision to add more teams would be considered premature. Omar stressed that the matter would be addressed with the PCB in a collaborative and understanding manner.

In addition to their concerns over expansion, the franchise owners have recommended that future financial dealings with the PCB be conducted in Pakistani rupees rather than US dollars. This, they argue, would help reduce financial pressure and mitigate the effects of currency fluctuations.
