PMDC Seeks Report on Medical Student’s Mysterious Death

Date:

Mirpurkhas, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council) has sought a detailed report from a private medical college in Mirpurkhas following the mysterious death of a third-year medical student.

According to officials, the council has also requested an inquiry report from the provincial government as investigations continue into the incident involving student Fahmida Laghari.

PMDC stated that its zero-tolerance policy on harassment in educational institutions remains in place, adding that strict action will be taken against any faculty or institution found responsible.

The council president said disciplinary proceedings will be initiated through relevant committees, and students can directly lodge complaints with harassment monitoring bodies.

He emphasized that providing a safe educational environment is a legal and ethical requirement, and any form of harassment, intimidation, or abuse will not be tolerated.

Authorities confirmed that anti-harassment committees are mandatory in all medical and dental colleges across the country.

The student reportedly died by suicide in a private medical college in Mirpurkhas. Family members have alleged that she was being harassed by a faculty member, a claim that is now part of the ongoing investigation.
