PM Shehbaz Seeks PPP Backing for 27th Amendment

Date:

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally sought backing from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for the 27th Constitutional Amendment, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari confirmed.

According to Bilawal, a delegation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led by the Prime Minister held discussions with President Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal himself to deliberate on the proposed amendment.

The proposed constitutional change aims to establish a constitutional court, introduce new rules for the transfer of executive magistrates and judges, and remove provincial share protections under the National Finance Commission (NFC).

It also seeks to amend Article 243, enable federal control over education and population planning, and create mechanisms to resolve deadlocks in appointing members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Bilawal highlighted that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee will meet on 6 November, after President Zardari’s return from Qatar, to finalize the party’s position regarding the amendment.

This move unfolds amid heightened national attention on Pak-Afghan border tensions and severe smog affecting major urban centers across the country.
