Government Aims to Strengthen Civil Service as Backbone for Public Welfare and Economic Growth
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has underscored the critical need for comprehensive reforms in Pakistan’s civil services to align them with international standards. Speaking at a high-level review meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted that civil services form the backbone of governance, ensuring that the benefits of government welfare and reform policies reach the public efficiently.
The review meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, assessed the progress of proposed civil service reforms. Shahbaz Sharif directed the reform committee to design recommendations based on a thorough evaluation of officer performance, including promotions, financial incentives, and other benefits.
He emphasized that effective civil service reforms are essential for economic prosperity, social cohesion, and enhanced public service delivery. The committee was tasked to consult with stakeholders across all government services and groups to create practical, sustainable, and impactful reforms.
Officials including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Climate Change Masood Malik, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, all provincial Chief Secretaries, and other senior officials attended the session.
