Pakistani Passport Ranks Fourth Weakest in World

Date:

Pakistan’s passport has been ranked the world’s fourth weakest on the latest Henley Passport Index, placing 101st globally with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to just 29 destinations.

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s passport has been ranked the fourth weakest in the world, according to the latest Henley Passport Index, placing the country at 101st globally with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to just 29 destinations.

The UK-based citizenship and residence advisory firm compares 199 different passports across 227 travel destinations, calculating each country’s score based on the number of destinations its citizens can visit without a prior visa or with a visa available on arrival. On this year’s list, Pakistan’s green passport ranks ahead of only Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, underscoring the country’s limited global travel mobility.

Among Pakistan’s regional neighbours, China holds the 60th position, India ranks 81st, and Iran stands at 96th on the global list, placing all three well above Pakistan despite regional proximity and, in some cases, comparable economic profiles.

According to the index, Pakistani passport holders currently enjoy visa-free access to a limited set of countries, including Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, Rwanda, The Gambia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vanuatu, among a few others. Visa-on-arrival facilities remain available in destinations such as Cambodia, the Maldives, Nepal, Samoa, Senegal and Sierra Leone, while electronic travel authorisations can be obtained for Kenya, Seychelles and Sri Lanka.

The ranking reflects a broader, long-term trend of declining passport strength for Pakistan, which has consistently featured near the bottom of the Henley Index in recent years. Historical data published alongside the report shows Pakistan’s position has fluctuated over nearly two decades but has remained persistently low compared to most other countries assessed in the index.

At the top of this year’s rankings, Singapore retained its position as the world’s most powerful passport, followed by Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates tied for second place, and Sweden ranked third. These countries offer their citizens visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to well over 180 destinations, highlighting the wide gap between the most and least mobile passport holders globally.
