Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan has expressed deep concern over escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve differences through dialogue and diplomacy, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said during his weekly press briefing .
Call for Restraint and Diplomacy
Andrabi stated that “tensions in the region are not in anyone’s interest” and that Pakistan is “against the use of force by any country.” He emphasized that Pakistan believes conflicts should be resolved through negotiations, urging all parties to avoid any actions that could further escalate the situation .
Implementation of Islamabad MoU
The spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), urging both sides to recognize its importance and return to the negotiating table. He expressed hope that the Strait of Hormuz situation would return to normalcy soon .
Pakistan’s Mediation Role
Andrabi said Pakistan remains in contact with key mediators and has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held important conversations with Qatari leadership and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role for regional peace .
Afghanistan and Regional Issues
The spokesperson also addressed the Afghanistan situation, stating that Pakistan has sent 45 trucks of humanitarian aid, but Afghan authorities have refused to allow them entry. He reiterated that until Afghanistan ends support for terrorists, there can be no thaw in relations .
On the Pahalgam incident, Andrabi rejected India’s attempts to link Pakistan to the attack, stating India has failed to present credible evidence to date . He also strongly condemned the UK-based child abuse case, stressing that the suspect is a British citizen and it is Britain’s responsibility to fulfill legal requirements .
