Pakistan announce squads for Sri Lanka T20Is and ODI tri-series

Sahibzada Farhan will captain Pakistan in the three-match T20I series, while Shaheen Shah Afridi retains ODI leadership against England and Sri Lanka.

Web Desk: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the national squads for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka and the seven-match ODI tri-series involving England and Sri Lanka.

Sahibzada Farhan has been named Pakistan’s T20I captain, while Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue to lead the ODI side. The announcement was made by the PCB on Monday, October 5.

Sahibzada Farhan named T20I captain

Farhan, who recently led Pakistan at the Asian Games, will captain the national side in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.

The T20I matches will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11 and 13.

The 15-member T20I squad is:

  • Sahibzada Farhan (captain)
  • Abdul Samad
  • Abrar Ahmed
  • Arafat Minhas
  • Fakhar Zaman
  • Hasan Nawaz
  • Muhammad Imran Randhawa
  • Khawaja Nafay (wicketkeeper)
  • Maaz Sadaqat
  • Naseem Shah
  • Razaullah
  • Saim Ayub
  • Mohammad Salman Mirza
  • Shadab Khan
  • Sufiyan Moqim

The PCB has also included Mohammad Imran Randhawa and Razaullah in the T20I setup, while Salman Ali Agha is not part of the squad.

Shaheen Afridi to lead ODI side

Shaheen Shah Afridi will retain the captaincy for Pakistan’s ODI campaign in the tri-series featuring England and Sri Lanka.

The 16-member ODI squad includes Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub and Shadab Khan alongside Shaheen.

The ODI squad is:

  • Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain)
  • Abrar Ahmed
  • Salman Ali Agha
  • Arafat Minhas
  • Babar Azam
  • Faheem Ashraf
  • Fakhar Zaman
  • Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (wicketkeeper)

  • Saad Baig (wicketkeeper)
  • Saim Ayub

ODI tri-series to feature England and Sri Lanka

Following the T20I series, Pakistan will participate in a seven-match ODI tri-series with England and Sri Lanka.

The first three matches will be played in Rawalpindi before the tournament moves to Lahore for the remaining league fixtures and the final.

The schedule is:

  • October 18: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka — Rawalpindi
  • October 20: Pakistan vs England — Rawalpindi
  • October 22: Sri Lanka vs England — Rawalpindi
  • October 25: Pakistan vs England — Lahore
  • October 27: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka — Lahore
  • October 29: Sri Lanka vs England — Lahore
  • October 31: Final — Lahore

Pakistan’s white-ball assignments

The announcement gives Pakistan separate leadership arrangements for the two formats, with Farhan taking charge of the T20I side and Shaheen continuing as ODI captain.

The PCB has also named Mike Hesson as head coach, Shaun Tait as bowling coach, Michael Smith as batting coach and Mansoor Amjad as fielding coach.

The Sri Lanka T20I series will be Pakistan’s first assignment in the current home white-ball schedule. The ODI tri-series will follow before Pakistan and Sri Lanka meet in a two-Test World Test Championship series in November.
