ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has voiced serious concern over the hoisting of a flag atop the Ram Mandir, built on the site of the historic Babri Mosque in India.
In a statement from the Foreign Office, Islamabad urged the international community to take notice of what it described as escalating Islamophobia in India. The Babri Mosque, a centuries-old place of worship, was demolished by extremists on December 6, 1992. The spokesperson noted that those responsible were later acquitted with the facilitation of the Indian government.
The statement further highlighted that the Indian authorities allowed the construction of a temple on the demolished mosque’s site, warning that other historic mosques across India now face similar threats of desecration. Pakistan said such actions reflect the discriminatory treatment of minorities in India.
According to the Foreign Office, Indian Muslims continue to suffer social, economic, and political marginalisation. It called on the global community to speak out against hate speech and attacks targeting minorities.
The spokesperson also urged the United Nations to play its role in safeguarding Islamic heritage in India and ensuring the protection of Indian Muslims along with other religious communities.
