Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan has called for a clear and public statement from Afghanistan’s Taliban leadership regarding reports that Taliban Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada directed the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to halt attacks against Pakistan.
According to sources, Islamabad welcomed any positive developments but stressed that media reports alone cannot serve as a basis for national security policy. Pakistani officials said any such directive must be publicly confirmed by senior members of Afghanistan’s interim government and backed by visible and verifiable actions on the ground.
Sources stated that Pakistan’s position remains unchanged: any commitment regarding the TTP must be concrete, transparent, and enforceable. Officials emphasized that relocating militants away from border areas would not be sufficient if recruitment networks, financing channels, training camps, weapons supplies, and command structures remain intact.
Pakistani authorities also noted that there has been no measurable decline in militant activity, cross-border infiltration, or facilitation networks. According to officials, attacks linked to militant groups continue, while concerns remain over the use of Afghan territory by groups targeting Pakistan.
Sources further highlighted what they described as inconsistencies in Kabul’s position, pointing out that Afghan authorities have repeatedly denied that their territory is being used for attacks against Pakistan. They argued that any warning issued to the TTP would raise questions about those previous denials.
Officials reiterated that Pakistan seeks peaceful and cooperative relations with Afghanistan and maintains strong historical, cultural, and religious ties with the Afghan people. However, they stressed that lasting improvements in bilateral relations would depend on decisive and verifiable action against militant groups operating from Afghan soil.
The development comes amid ongoing regional security concerns and efforts to improve cooperation between Islamabad and Kabul on counterterrorism and border stability.
