Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s seafood exports have crossed the $500 million mark for the first time, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said, highlighting strong growth in the country’s fisheries sector and rising global demand for Pakistani seafood products.
The minister said Pakistan’s total seafood exports are expected to reach $800 million, driven by increased shipments to key international markets including China, Thailand, Japan, and the European Union.
According to Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, China remained Pakistan’s largest seafood market, while fisheries exports recorded a 21.6% increase during the July-December period.
He added that demand for Pakistani seafood has also increased significantly in Central Asian countries, reflecting growing international confidence in Pakistan’s fisheries industry and export potential.
Exporters noted that Pakistan’s fisheries exports stood at approximately $499 million during the 2022-23 fiscal year, adding that the sector holds the potential to generate billions of dollars annually with improved infrastructure, investment, and modern processing facilities.
The development is being viewed as a positive sign for Pakistan’s economy, foreign exchange reserves, and maritime trade sector amid ongoing efforts to boost exports and expand international market access.
