Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: State Bank of Pakistan announced on Tuesday that Pakistan has received a $1.3 billion tranche from the International Monetary Fund under its ongoing financial assistance programs.
According to the central bank, the funds were disbursed through the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) programs.
The IMF Executive Board had approved the release of the latest installment during its meeting held on May 8, 2026, after completing the third review of Pakistan’s EFF program.
Under the approval, Pakistan received 760 million Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) under the EFF arrangement, while an additional 154 million SDRs were approved under the RSF program.
The State Bank said a total of 914 million SDRs, equivalent to approximately $1.3 billion, were transferred on May 12, 2026. The amount will officially be reflected in Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves during the week ending May 15, 2026.
The latest IMF inflow is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s external account position and provide support to foreign exchange reserves amid ongoing economic reforms and fiscal stabilization efforts.
Financial analysts say the development could improve investor confidence and support the country’s macroeconomic stability as Pakistan continues negotiations and reforms linked to international lending programs.
